In honour of its 30th anniversary, Kris An Charles Investments Company Limited will present $30,000 grants to 180 PEP students entering grade 7. The company has decided to incorporate their loyal consumers in their celebration of this milestone in keeping with their aim of adhering to their corporate social responsibility for the benefit of all.
“Our company has benefited from the patronage of so many Jamaicans over the years, we aim to give back whenever we have the chance,” said Trevor Hutchinson, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kris An Charles Investments.
Hutchinson, who has led the company since its inception, is responsible for the organization’s vision as well as many of its previous projects. As a father of three, he understands the responsibilities of parenting as well as the importance of a good education. And, after learning about the difficulties that many of the company’s clients have been faced with, he decided to award student grants as a token of appreciation for their ongoing support.
As a result, the Kris Bright Futures Grant was created.
This need-based grant received its name from the team members at Kris An Charles who wanted the grant’s name to have a significant meaning. Because many Jamaicans are unable to obtain formal education due to financial constraints, the name “Bright Futures” refers to the possibility of bright futures for those who receive the grant.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have been laid off, while others have seen their wages lowered. Kris An Charles Investments, as pioneers of micro-financing, recognized the difficulties experienced by many of their clients and aims to alleviate some of the burden through this grant.
“The company is investing $5.4m with the hopes of helping PEP students with their first year of high school,” said Africa Donaldson, Senior Manager of the Marketing & Business Development department at Kris An Charles Investments.
According to Donaldson, even though the company is celebrating a major milestone which is 30 years, they are more excited about giving back to their customers during this time.
The Kris Bright Futures Grant is available to current and former Kris An Charles customers whose children have taken the PEP examination this year. Applicants must provide the official Ministry of Education, Youth and Information (MOEYI) PEP results in their application, as well as the child’s supporting documents.
